Special Events helps introduce KU to the public in a friendly and welcoming way, through the KU Visitor Center in Lawrence and proactive outreach efforts such as representation at the Kansas State Fair, the Wheat State Whirlwind Tour, Family Weekend Open House, and other campus/community celebrations.

Family Weekend is a great opportunity for parents and families to visit with students and participate in activities across campus. Scheduled to take place in September, many events have been planned with assistance from a wide range of university departments and offices in order to make the best of your weekend at the University of Kansas!

The fair provides KU with a unique opportunity to showcase who we are and how we serve the state. The KU booth is a popular stop during the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. Several volunteers from KU campuses in Lawrence, Kansas City, Kan., Overland Park and Wichita staff the booth during the fair's 10-day run. Approximately 300,000 people annually attend the Kansas State Fair.

Since 1997, 40 to 45 professors and staff have boarded a bus at the University of Kansas in Lawrence for a "whirlwind" tour of the state in May. The Wheat State Whirlwind Tour endeavors to bring a select group of KU personnel into a closer relationship with Kansans through a six-day statewide tour.

Every March KU employees travel to the Statehouse to promote dozens of university programs and KU before an influential audience of policy-makers and other state officials — many of whom are KU alumni.
